Description

Banjo clock. Finial is eagle on ball. Dial has hour and minute hands and Roman numerals. Neck flanked by brass frets and set with white eglomise panel with gold diaper pattern above a sun-like device. Neck and pendulum box outlined with molding; box set with eglomise panel featuring oval window surmounted by an eagle. Base ends in fluted bracket with balls.

Basis of maker

Inscribed by Willard. Although it is known that Simon Willard allowed other clockmakers to make his "Patent Timepiece," Montgomery believes that this one was actually made by Willard, since several factors in its construction are all in accord with practices followed in Simon Willard's shop.
